Ball State University Athletics
Ball State University is an NCAA Division I school, with baseball, basketball, cross-country, diving, equestrian, football, golf, swimming, tennis, and track & field for men and basketball, cross-country, diving, equestrian, field hockey, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball for women. The team nickname is the Cardinals. The University is in the Mid-American Conference. Students who are interested in playing sports at Ball State can send a request directly to the coach from the Ball State University Athletics website.
The Ball State Cardinals compete in the Mid-American Conference, Division I-A of the NCAA and offer seven men’s sports and twelve women’s sports. Most notably, a record was set in 2005 as three of Ball State’s football players were chosen in the NFL draft. While football is one of the more popular sports, students and alumni alike regularly attend games in the sports of baseball, softball, soccer, gymnastics, field hockey, swimming, and men’s and women’s basketball, golf, or tennis. Ball State takes special pride in the academic quality of its student athletes. Ball State student athletes currently rank first in Mid-American Conference and 11th in the nation in overall graduation rates among NCAA Division I-A institutions. Recognition for outstanding academic performance has also been given to student athletes in swimming and men’s and women’s basketball.
